Wooden Quilt Block for my house.

Earlier this fall my DH and I were in the NC mountains, and adventured into Burnsville to find Needle Me This, a quilt store that had been featured in a quilt magazine. The entire shop was wonderful, but the entrance was spectacular. Right beside the front door is a beautiful painted 3'x3' quilt square, typical of what you see on barns in the NC mountains. I fell in love with that quilt block and knew that I wanted to do a smaller version of it with slightly different colors.

 Here is the beautiful quilt block at Needle Me This. I am staying in the same color range, however I am not using the white and light blue. On those points I am using the light and dark gold.... And then where you see the golds in the picture I am changing that to the light and dark greens. My quilt block will be 2'x2', and our house numbers will be displayed in the center diamond.



So, here is what I have to this point... Yes, I'm painting in the kitchen... on the granite counter-top... I think the blue tape is a nice touch! I painted the gold in just to help me eye it all and get an idea for what it will look like. I will tape it and paint it correctly... (don't worry) :-)


That's it for now... I'll post the finished block when it
is firmly attached to our house and proudly displaying the house numbers.

    What a terrific idea. There are a lot of barns in KY with quilt blocks adorning their sides also. I have been looking for something to hang by my front door that won't fade. This is just the ticket. In Michigan I had a quilted, and framed hanging that I displayed on my front porch for years and years. I had it on my KY house for a few months and it faded quite a bit. I think I will have to paint a quilt block like you are doing. Can't wait to see the finished product.

 I don't have my beautiful sewing studio anymore. We decided to get out from under the mortgage. That means we sold the house including my awesome sewing room above the garage! Bummer! But we're going to Italy in the Fall for a month.... not a bade trade off at all. Italy always inspires new quilts. So we got creative with space. This house is 1400 sq' compared to the 2800' we sold. There are two bedrooms. That's it! The "guest bedroom" is my new sewing room. DH converted the closet into a lighted sewing center with my thread racks on the back closet wall. Not too bad. From now on I'll make smaller art quilts :-)  But, what to do about a bed in the center of the room???? DH to the rescue again. He built a Murphy Bed from a kit and directions off the web. A Ghastly Party... It's BYOB!

April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop

Welcome! So happy you could stop by to visit on this beautiful spring day. Erin Davis  and Madamme Samm  have done a fabulous job of scheduling and coordinating this event...  To them I send ~   A Grand Thank You! My mug rug is a bit on the large size and does not have a thing to do with rain, showers or April. In fact, I should have saved it for next month's bird blog hop. But it is the one and only mug rug I've ever made, and I just love it.  (Oddly enough, so does my DH) It all started with this litte table located in our cozy reading corner of the kitchen.    It's functional because it holds magazines and has a lamp.  However, the top is not real wood! Tacky!  And, our kitchen is pretty nice... We love its open style and views.  Enjoying coffee there in the morning is quite nice. I wanted a nicer looking table.
