Re-Do Bird Island
Here you have it....
The old Bird Island is on the left and the redo is on the right. I put a picture of the piece on a Quilting Arts critique forum. One lovely lady wrote a whole page of comments and tips. I took it to heart and made some changes. The mail box is more aged as is the post, and the water has more motion and appears to have the tide coming in. I like it... hope you do too because it is FINISHED!!! I'm moving on.

Both are lovely, but do agree with the weathered mailbox -next to beach it wouldn't take long for a mailbox to get 'weathered'. Very nice work!
ReplyDeleteOh neat! I like the transformation. I think you captured the water well. How did you "age" the mailbox and post? Great job Auntie M!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lizzie... To age the mailbox, I used Derwent Inktense colored pencil, gray, and then set it permanently by spritzing it with water. Very cool set of pencils. You can even water color with them by dipping the points in water. Lots of fun.

Wow, I have to say that I LOVE your fabric paintings and I am jealous. I have always wanted to try this (have bought several different patterns, always drool over McKenna Ryan stuff, etc..) I get stuck with just the thought of picking the "right" fabrics. LOL. At any rate, I love all of yours, thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeletewelcome to blogging. Have fun!
You sure are talented in many areas of art. Your floor cloth is awesome.
Love this , I am fairly new to this type of quilting but I love it and love to see work like yours as inspiration .
